[Preview] The one thing I regret
Dear Reader,
I want to share something personal with you today.
I have had 12 dogs in my life.
And the one thing I regret — genuinely regret — is that I didn't learn this earlier.
Not because I didn't love them. I loved every single one of them deeply. But because I grew up believing what most of us believe: that we already know how to understand dogs. That it comes naturally. That love is enough.
It isn't.
The day I discovered calming signals and truly understood what dogs have been trying to tell us all along, I realised how much I had missed. How many moments I had misread. How many times my dogs had been communicating clearly, and I simply hadn't known how to listen.
Does your dog pull on the leash? Before you try to correct it — what if the pulling is actually stress, and correction is making it worse?
Does your dog bark at guests? What if it's not being difficult — but telling you it feels unsafe?
Does your dog ignore you when you call? What if it's not disobedience — but overwhelm?
Does your dog react to other dogs on walks — barking, lunging, pulling toward them? What if that's not aggression — but a dog that's desperately trying to communicate something you haven't been taught to see?
Does your dog seem restless indoors — wandering, unable to settle, always looking for something? What if that's not excess energy — but stress that nobody has helped your dog release?
Does your dog jump on people — and no matter how many times you correct it, nothing really changes? What if jumping isn't bad manners — but your dog trying to communicate something it doesn't know how to express any other way?
Here's the thing most dog training misses completely.
You can't train away a message your dog is desperately trying to send.
You can suppress it. You can interrupt it. You can temporarily stop the behaviour. But if you don't understand what your dog is communicating — the message will keep coming back. In the same behaviour. Or in a new one.
That's why more training often doesn't work. Not because you're doing it wrong. But because you're solving the wrong problem.
That's why I created The Caring Human Code® Foundation Course. Not to teach you obedience techniques. Not to give you a quick fix. But to give you what I wish someone had given me years earlier — the language your dog has been speaking all along.
The course has two tracks — one for dog guardians, and one for dog professionals. Both start Tuesday April 7. Enrollment closes at 14.00 CEST.
If you still have questions I'm inviting you to join me tomorrow, Sunday the 5th of April for a live Q&A where you can ask me anything directly. I'll also be sharing real stories of what changes when people (including myself) finally understand what their dog is trying to tell them.
PS. I did a 15 min recording about all practical information about the course and posted it on our YouTube Channel. In case you want more practical information you can find it here in this link.
